What does Simon Calder, a ‘Gayaguem’ (traditional Korean instrument) and a ‘Batak’ machine (used by F1 drivers to test reaction times) all have in common? All were present at Korea Tourism Organization’s (KTO) annual summer party, held at the top of New Zealand House in the Haymarket on Tuesday 29th June. Also present was KTO’s travel trade partners, friends and one of the most spectacular views across London.

Simon Calder was invited to speak at the event, delighting the audience with his humour and considerable knowledge about Korean tourism which stretches back to 1988. A ‘Gayageum’ player enchanted the invited guests with her wonderful melodies as traditional Korean food was served. In celebration of Korea’s forthcoming F1 race in October, Korea Tourism Organization encouraged guests to try their reactions on a ‘Batak’ machine with the prize for lightning reactions going to Edward Ellwood of H.I.S Europe Ltd.

There was an exciting announcement from Mr Kapsoo Kim, Director of the London office of the Korea Tourism Organization. He explained that anyone with an interest in Korean tourism can join the ‘Korea Tourism Supporters Network’ (KTSN). We would appreciate your help! As a volunteer of the London chapter of KTSN we want your support, guidance and advice on a range of tourism matters, such as developing facilities and events. We want to make our country’s tourism offering as good as possible and YOU can help even in the simplest way by spreading the word, through the web and/or providing brochures to your communities. If you have some GREAT ideas and wish to share your love of Korea, please sign-up for the ‘Korea Tourism Supporters Network’.
