Pyeongchang – ‘Encounters with people and nature’
Pyeongchang in the Gangwon-do province has been bustling with activity lately. The major reason is that Pyeongchang is one of three cities bidding to host the 2010 Winter Olympics, the citizens have come together in the hope that Pyeongchang will be the city selected to host this prestigious event and have begun preparing for the arrival of Olympic guests.
Pyeongchang is an ideal venue for international sporting events and is Korea’s representative ski town, the site of Yong Pyong Resort and Pheonix Park Ski World, both of which have several international competitions under their belts already. Along with winter sports and soft adventure activities, Gangwon-do has an abundance of natural, historical and cultural resources that draws tourists from all over the world. Many treasures of the area await discovery by overseas tourists.
The 31st Korea Tourism Photo Contest – ‘Wake Up! Photo Enthusiasts!’
The Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) invites the public to participate in the 31st Korea Tourism Photo contest and help introduce Korea’s unique tourist attractions to the world. There are two divisions for entries and the categories are ‘Film Photo Division’ & ‘Digital Photo Division’. Entry is free and open to all. The Grand Prize in the Film Photo Division is 5,000,000 Won and is awarded by the President of Korea. For more information go to www.photo-korea.org.
Jeju Leisure & Sports Festival.
The Jeju Leisure & Sports Festival will take place from May 18th to September 21st on the Island of sun & ocean, Jeju-do. The competition incorporates 8 different leisure sport categories that will take advantage of Fantastic Island views and superb facilities of Jeju City and Iho Beach. Sporting activities include sea fishing, windsurfing, swimming. Iron man Triathlon, scuba diving and will all take place during the festival, along with the national paragliding contest, shoreside cycling event, a special ocean experience program and much more.
