Press Release November 2002
DMZ Tour Package Introduced
The Korean security tour, once limited to Panmunjeom and the underground tunnels, has now been expanded to include the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ). Civilians have been strictly guarded against having access to the DMZ until now, as it is the strip of land that separates the Korean peninsula in half. It is 248km from east to west, and the width varies from 5km-20 km throughout its length. The DMZ is a treasure trove of rare plants and animals. The tour takes about 2.5 hours and is only located about 1 hour from Seoul. Included in the tour are many sites of interest such as the tomb of the King Gyeongsun from the Silla era and a nostalgic boat ride on a 3.5km stretch of river beside the cliffs of the Imjingang riverbank. Reservations are advised at least 2 days in advance to allow for security checks. Prices are 65,000 (approx £35) won per person. For more information go to www.i-icsc.com
