The 9th Annual Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2006 will play host to a very rare event. The Institute of Korean Royal Cuisine, the Korea Cultural Centre and Korea Tourism Organization have joined forces to enable ‘Korea’s Royal Court Chefs’ to visit the UK and showcase their skills through various live demonstrations. The preparation of Royal Korean cuisine has remained unchanged for centuries and provided the staple diet for numerous Royal Dynasties throughout Korea’s history.

The Institute of Royal Cuisine was established when Korean Royal Cuisine was designated an Intangible Cultural Property in 1971. The institute’s founder, Hwang-Hye Seong and Han Bok-Rye, acquired their knowledge and skill from Han Hui-Sun, the last kitchen court lady of the Joseon Dynasty. Today the institute ensures that Korea’s traditional and royal cuisine remains a prominent part of Korea’s history for future generations.

The Royal Court Chefs will be in the UK from the 3rd – 8th October and will be demonstrating their skills at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival on the 6th October, Albert Square.
