Jongmyo Shrine, registered as a cultural tradition within UNESCO’s World Heritage listing, isn’t merely a royal and ancient worshipping ceremony, but a festival of dance and music to celebrate and encourage preservation of Confucian values of loyalty and filial piety. Jongmyo is where 49 spirit tablets of the Kings and Queens of the Joseon Dynasty are enshrined, and where memorial services are offered.

This event comes only once a year, and is rated very highly due to the rare opportunity to witness the authentic beauty and art of the Jongmyo Royal Ancestral Rite rituals. The Korea Tourism Organization believes that this is a great opportunity to showcase Korea’s expansion and development over recent years whilst still being able to preserve the countries historical and cultural legacies.
