Pyeongchang – Korea, has the honour of being the first Asian destination to host the Biathlon World Championships. Not only is Pyeongchang hosting the biathlon world championships, but also plays host to the FIS snowboard and the female curling championships this year. In the near future Pyeongchang will attempt to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. The opening ceremony will take place on 13th February 2009 and will finish on the 22nd February 2009.
Pyeongchang is proud of its unspoiled natural environment making it a very attractive resort for visitors to rest and relax. Pyeongchang preserves its various indigenous cultural attractions, including ancient artifacts, historic sites. The scenery in the Pyeongchang area is breathtaking throughout the year, especially in the winter. The area receives more than 3m off snowfall annually, making for excellent skiing conditions at ski resorts and for winter mountain climbing.
