The Gangjin Celadon Festival Heats Up The Summer In Korea
(Fort Lee, NJ) – With excellent weather, a perfect sea-side location and an abundant amount of both clay and firewood, Gangjin served as the home of Korea’s celadon culture, which flourished for 500 years during the Goryeo Dynasty.
The Gangjin Celadon Cultural Festival will take place from July 26 to August 1, 2003. The Festival got its start in 1996 in order to promote celadon, one of the most important traditional cultural assets in the country of Korea. The image of Gangjin as a celadon village flourished both at home and abroad, making celadon more familiar to the general public.
Since then, by offering unique and fascinating hands-on experiences and programs, the Gangjin Celadon Cultural Festival has contributed to promoting the universal and global features of the Goryeo celadon culture. The festival will offer visitors a great opportunity to enjoy, and learn about one of Korea’s most glorious cultural assets.
Some of the activities planned for the festival include a do-it-yourself celadon-making session, mosaic- making with celadon pieces, inscribing patterns on celadon, a celadon production demonstration, Gangjin celadon exhibition, and a celadon contest.
