The Korea National Tourism Organization (Keon Yoo/President), BH Team, Inc. (Brian Youn/President) and the PGA TOUR have jointly announced the creation of an officially sanctioned PGA TOUR Challenge Season event to be held this November in Korea.

“We are excited to work together with the Korea National Tourism Organization and the BH Team, Inc. to bring some of the world’s best players to Korea,” said Ed Moorhouse, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the PGA TOUR. “The Korean market is an important one to the PGA TOUR. With the emergence of such stars as K.J. Choi, Korean golfers are gaining international exposure and bringing attention to golf in this country. “This event will be a welcome addition to our Challenge Season schedule.”

The PGA TOUR’s Challenge Season is a series of events offering unofficial prize money that begin following the conclusion of the PGA TOUR’s Official Money season at THE TOUR Championship and continues throughout November and December. Other Challenge Season events include such tournaments as the Target World Challenge, Skins Game and the Franklin Templeton Shootout.

The tournament, which will be called the Korea Golf Championship until a long-term sponsor is secured, will be held November 22-28 at Jungmun Golf Course on Jeju Island, Korea. The US$4 million tournament will feature a 50-player field including the top 30 available players from the PGA TOUR’s Official Money list through the NEC Invitational, the top five players from the Korean PGA money list and other top international players. The winner will receive US$1 million first-place money.

The event will be broadcast in the United States with USA Network covering the first three rounds and NBC carrying the final round. The United States broadcast will be produced by Chirkinian Productions. The event will be carried in Korea on KBS (Korea Broadcasting System). The tournament is sponsored by the Jeju Province (host city), Shilla Hotel (official hotel) and the KBS. For more information, visit the internet at www.pgatour.com.
