With Korean Marine Corps. Training Programs
Developed by the Isson Co. and being offered through Gangwon-do Province’s new Kyong Dong University, the Korean Spirit 2004 Is an innovative summer cultural exchange designed for adventurous students who wish see a unique side of Korean culture. Although the main focus of the 12-day Korean Spirit 2004 programs—which are being held in four distinct sessions throughout the summer—is learning Korean, the program also incorporates three days of instruction at the Korean Marine Corps Academy. The Marine Academy portion of the program offers security-focused training sessions, with such activities as drilling, raid training, battle practice swimming, ISB (Inflatable Small Boat) Training, Team Power Training and Mountain Marching. Because of Gangwon-do’s proximity to the military no-man’s land known as the Demilitarized Zone, security issues tend to comprise part of the cultural consciousness of the residents of this northerly province.

In addition to the military training programs, students enrolled in Korean Spirit 2004 will also be able to participate in language classes, etiquette classes, sightseeing excursions and taekwondo training. Because of Kyong Dong’s proximity to Mt. Seoraksan National Park, significant time will also be spent exploring the mystical beauties of what many consider to be Korea’s most beautiful national park.
