Traditional Sea culture and Largest seafood festival in Korea

(FT. LEE, NJ) AUGUST 29, 2004 – The Korea National Tourism Organization and the Busan Festival organizers, Busan City Department of Tourism, Culture, invite you to experience traditional Korean Sea Culture and largest seafood festival in Korea.

Busan Jagalchi Festival is Korea’s largest seafood festival held every October at Busans Jagalchi Market, one of Busan’s most famous attractions, and at Nampo-dong located in the center of Busan. The festival features divers things to see, reenacting traditional fishing folk culture such as Yongwanje (Sea King Ritual), and Manseonje (ritual prayer for a good catch), as well as various seafood-related hands-on experience programs where visitors can participate and enjoy the traditional culture. It also offers free cruise tours where visitors can view the spectacular seascape around Taejongdae, Songdo Island and fish market where fresh raw fish slices and other seafood can be purchased at discounted prices.

Main Events:
Reenactment of traditional rites (fishing ritual and prayers for a good catch), Gilnori (percussion performance), quiz on finding out exact weight and names of raw fish slices, Jagalchi aunties beauty contest, and bare-handed fish catching.

From Seoul, Yeongdong is approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes by express train.
