FOLLOWING POPULARITY OF TAEKKYEON (TAEKWONDO) AND OTHER OLYMPIC MARTIAL ARTS

(FT. LEE, NJ) AUGUST 29, 2004 – The Korea National Tourism Organization and the Chungju World Martial Arts Festival organizers, Chungju Department of Tourism and Culture, invite you to experience Korea’s ancient martial art as never before.

The Chungju Martial Arts Festival was conceived in 1998 when the martial arts contest, to which domestic martial arts groups were invited, was held. In 2000, the name was changed to Chungju World Martial Arts Festival. Since then, the festival has staged a variety of martial arts performances from around the world, which were a popular hit among tourists. With the participation of more than thirty international martial arts groups, the festival will stage a demonstration on the origin of martial arts, as well as other various martial arts demonstrations. It also features arms exhibitions, serving as an on-site learning place for students.

Taekyeon (Taekwondo) is designated as an Important Cultural Asset No. 76.

Main Events:
Taekkyeon (Taekwondo) and other Korean Martial Arts Competitions, traditional martial arts experience, ‘Gi’ training, temple stay, and a martial arts film festival.

Suanbo and Angseong Hot Springs in Chungcheongbuk-do

From Seoul, Chungju is approximately 2hours and 30 minutes by bus.
