(Ft. Lee, New Jersey) - THE WORLD’S LARGEST CERAMICS FESTIVAL - Over 3,000 Ceramists from 67 Countries

The World Ceramic Biennale 2005 Korea is the largest ceramics event anywhere in the world and will be held April 23 (Saturday) through June 19 (Sunday) in three cities of Gyeonggi Province: Icheon, Yeoju, and Gwangju.

The World Ceramic Biennale in Korea has become the world’s most prestigious international event since it was established in 2001. Over 10 million visitors arrived to attend the first two biennales. Ceramic artists and ceramic lovers from Britain, the United States, Japan, China, and other leading countries in world ceramics participated.

This year’s theme for the 3rd Biennale, 2005, is “Ceramics: The Vehicle of Culture.” The Biennale presents 11 exhibitions featuring 1,500 artworks by 3,000 artists representing 67 countries. Other programs include the International Ceramic Symposium, workshops, hands-on educational programs for children and adults, as well as music and dance performances. These programs explore the influence of culture in ceramics and the potential of ceramics as a means of expressing culture.

Growth Potential in Ceramics
The Biennale will showcase four main exhibitions: World Contemporary Ceramics, the International Competition, Celadon of the World, and Ceramic House II. World Contemporary Ceramics, which showcases the great potential of contemporary ceramic arts, features works by thirty world-renowned ceramic artists. The exhibition for the International Competition highlights pieces selected by the World Ceramic Biennale Korea for cash award and represents some of the best from participating artists of 67 countries across the globe. Celadon of the World is a first-of-its-kind exhibition that will place the celadon works from both Korea and China under the same roof, allowing visitors to compare the fine attributes of both styles. And in Ceramic House II, the purpose is to explore the possibilities for ceramics use in daily life.

In order to make the experience of the Biennale a memorable and enjoyable one, the most advanced technologies are being employed to present images, provide lighting, and control color for the spectacular display of art pieces and attendant information.

Local Ceramics Festivals: Great Opportunities to Find Quality Ceramics at Lower Prices During the Biennale, local ceramics festivals will be held throughout Icheon, Gwangju, and Yeoju, with some 400 pottery studios from the Gyeonggi region participating. For those interested in taking home quality house wares and artworks, these festivals offer crafts in traditional and modern designs, produced by local potters and available at lower prices.
