Learning Korean in the summer

(Fort Lee, NJ) May 2, 2006 – The Executive Director of the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) New York, Mr. Sung-Woock Cho, has announced that many universities in Korea are currently offering Korean language programs for the 2nd generation Korean Americans and Americans. Major Korean universities, including Korea University offer these programs every year, and this year, there are various programs being offered over different periods throughout the summer to accommodate to the students' schedules.

Along with learning Korean, some programs include travel throughout the country and opportunities to learn about Korean culture. Students may participate in excursions through the affiliated organizations or travel agencies. These side trips introduce and feature the traditional culture as well as the modern aspects of Korea and even have the option to attend boot camp administered by the Marines.

The annual Korean language summer programs are very popular. This year promises to be especially exciting as the FIFA World Cup takes place throughout all of June, and Koreans will support their team throughout the tournament. Can you imagine yourself with thousands of people cheering in front of Seoul’s city hall? There is no better time to plan this trip to Korea!

Through these programs, it is hoped that the Korean American teenagers as well as American students will further understand Korea and learn about the history and traditional culture of this hidden jewel in Northeast Asia.
