Taste of Korea 2006 Presents
Discover the Taste of Korea Seasoned with Nature!

3rd UN Korean Food Festival
------------------------------------
June 5th – 16th, 2006
The United Nations’ Delegates’ Dining Room
UN Headquarters, 1st Avenue & 46th Street

For two weeks only, the delegates of the UN’s Headquarters will be treated with one of Korea’s most internationally renowned chefs, Mr. Gi Ho Yim -- and best of all, New Yorkers are also invited to the Delegates’ Dining Room for this feast! This will be a rare opportunity for New Yorkers to meet the Zen master of chef from Korea, who is known to break barriers and stereotypes surrounding Korean food. Chef Yim does not believe in having the mind set on fixed recipes, as natural ingredients are not always available year round – and this makes chef Yim the king of improvisation and creativity in Korean cooking. In his dishes, chef Yim – or the “master of wild green cuisine” as the press calls him – emphasizes the use of natural ingredients, using food as a source of natural medicine to the human body – this idea, perhaps, was shaped from growing up in a family famous for making traditional medicine. Chef Yim’s dishes can be best described as Korean art, except the canvases are replaced with plates. Chef Yim has also received official recognitions from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2004, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea in 2006 for sharing Korea’s culture with the world.

Chef Yun Ja Choi, who is also an accomplished artist, will be in charge of making traditional Korean desserts. Chef Choi is also a member of the Court Food Institute, the Research Society for the Traditional Food and the Research Society for Southern Food and Culture. She specializes in traditional wedding cookery. The festival will consist of an elaborate lunch buffet that will be open to the public from Monday to Friday, 11:30AM to 2:30PM. More than 80 dishes will be sampled over the course of the festival. The UN Delegates’ Dining Room (DDR) is a full service luncheon buffet and has been serving its guests for over 40 years. Guests such as Ambassadors, Delegates and the Secretary General dine with us on a daily basis. The international buffet provides the highest quality food available and is prepared with one of the most experienced kitchens in all of New York. Though the DDR has been open for over 40 years and provides one of the best views of all of Manhattan, the DDR is best known for their International Food Festivals. The DDR is open to the public Monday to Friday from 11:30AM to 2:30PM. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 212-963-7625/7626 or delegatesdiningroom@earthlink.net.

The 3rd UN Korean Food Festival is organized by the Korean Cultural Service New York, Korea Tourism Organization in NY, and the Korea Broadcasting Advertising Corporation in NY.
