As the glamorous world of Formula 1 drives into Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, the Korea Tourism Organization will be exhibiting on site. With a brand new circuit and facilities nearing completion, Korea takes its turn to host the country’s first F1 race between October 22-24, 2010. Visitors to the stand can experience a number of activities; these include testing your reactions and fitness on a ‘BATAK’ machine as used by F1 drivers, trying on ‘Hanbok’ (traditional Korean clothes)for a photo opportunity and figuring out an F1 jigsaw puzzle. So there will be plenty to keep everyone occupied before the main event starts on the track.

The Korea International Circuit (KIC) is located in the south-westerly province of Jeollanam-do Province, often referred to as the ‘granary of Korea’ rich in fertile rice paddies and a jagged coastline indented with small harbours. So how can fans visit the circuit? The KIC is accessible by Air, high-speed train and express bus. From Seoul Gimpo domestic Airport visitors can take a flight to Muan International Airport where a shuttle bus will take them to the circuit in 1hr 50 mins. Alternatively, Korea’s high-speed train the KTX will whisk fans from Seoul’s Yongsan Station to Mokpo Station and onward by shuttle bus in around 4hr. Similarly, Seoul’s Central Bus Station will take fans by road to Mokpo express bus terminal and onward by shuttle bus in 5hr.

A diverse range of accommodations are available too. In the 4 & 5 star category there are some 19 hotels with a 799 room capacity, 84 hotels in 3 star category with some 2500 room capacity and the chance to stay at a Buddhist Temple or within a traditional style house can make a unique experience. Between the 18th and 24th October there will be an event zone in the downtown area of Gwangju. To include concerts, performances both modern and traditional, F1 Drum festival and Youth Rock Festival.

The Jeollanam-do region is packed with exciting tours available aside from the excitement of the Grand Prix which includes stunning natural legacies to trying your hand at pottery making in the style of Korea’s world famous Celadon Pottery. This is just for the immediate area, but Seoul, Gyeongju and other major sites of interest lay in wait.
