The province
of Gangwon-do offers
visitors a unique change to experience the countryside through "ocean rail
bikes." Yes bikes on tracks that follow the shoreline giving a totally
unique perspective of the natural scenery in this part of Korea.
Operated by the city of Samcheok, these small
wheeled carriages run on railway tracks, offering travellers the chance to
enjoy both deep pine forests and the cooling breezes of the East Sea.
They have already proved very popular amongst locals and overseas travellers.
The 5.4 kilometre-long ocean rail bike trail opened back in July, linking
Gungchon and Yonghwa Station and has already been enjoyed by nearly 200,000
people, including 2,000 overseas tourists, who have all enjoyed riding the
ocean rail bikes in the first four months of operation.
