The Korea Tourism Organization (Acting CEO Kang Ki-hong) is to release an integrated version of the “Smart Tour Guide” mobile application that provides audio guides for Korea’s tourist attraction, such as Bukchon Hanok Village, which is popular with visitors from across the globe.

This is the World’s first mobile audio guide app to provide audio guides for tourist attractions nationwide. The app contains intriguing historical stories about famous urban attractions, UNESCO World Heritage Sites and museums.

The Smart Tour Guide has been developed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the KTO. Like the previous version, the integrated app can be used anywhere, anytime without 3G/LTE connection, after the user downloads it through WiFi. The app provides GPS and map services and supports four languages: Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese.

The most impressive feature of this app is that users can use all services with their SNS or email account (Facebook, Twitter) without registering. By logging in with an SNS or email account, users can make their own travel list in “Custom” and share it with friends via SNS. Also, the “Stamp” menu allows users to get a travel stamp for a place they visited. They can just click the “Stamp” icon while listening to an audio guide to get the stamp.

Meanwhile, the KTO is to hold a Smart Tour Guide app release event through the Visit Korea website (English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese). Download and install the app (on Android phones or iPhones), answer a quiz, and fill out and submit a survey. An iPad mini and other gifts will be distributed by lottery. The event will take place from the 10th (Fri) to 26th (Sun) of January, and the winners will be announced on January 28st (Tue).
