Londoner's should try switching their favourite calorie laden fast food oily dishes for Korean vegetable super food kimchi to aid digestion and keep waist lines trim, according to top TV chef and Soho restaurant owner, Judy Joo.

Eating more kimchi, a super healthy fermented cabbage dish that can be cooked in a wide variety of ways could be an easy way to cut calories, boost health and get extra minerals and vitamins . Koreans have the cabbage dish with breakfast, lunch and dinner and ‘kimchi’ everything from apples to radishes, broccoli and even brussel sprouts!

Korean food is rising in popularity in the capital with dishes like bibimbap being served in popular eateries around  the west end and Shoreditch . But top chef Judy Joo is on a mission to make more people try kimchi and healthy Korean food dishes.

Judy runs newly opened restaurant, Jinjuu in Kingly Street, Soho, and has her own show 'Korean Food Made Simple' on the UK Food Network worldwide, but she is probably most recognised from starring in the UK/ USA  ‘Iron Chef’ TV series.

Judy will be demonstrating how to use kimchi in a variety of way and sharing her top tips at this weekend’s London Korean Festival in Trafalgar Square, from 12- 8pm.

South Korea also produces the world’s bestselling alcoholic drink called soju, which has a third less calories than vodka and used in lower calorie ‘skinny cocktails’. Judy Joo will show the crowds at festival how to make a special kimchi bloody mary!

Judy Joo said: “Kimchi to Koreans is like spaghetti sauce to Italians, everyone has their own special recipe, and families even have kimchi making parties. There are hundreds of different versions and it’s packed with good bacteria, making it a true super food of the world. It would be great if more people gave kimchi other delicious dishes a try. Adding a side dish of kimchi to everyday meals could really make a positive difference to our health, waist lines and most importantly our taste buds!”

Many Korean meals are usually void of dairy and cheese and consist of small dishes which include a variety of seasonal vegetables, seaweed, greens and soup.  Staple spices used in cooking include ginger, chilli, garlic, onions, sesame seeds and soy sauce.

Foodies are in for a treat at the free festival this Sunday with and variety of delicious food stalls selling a wide menu of food and drink. There will be an additional food demonstration from head chef of 'Galvin at Windows' Joo Won. The event is organised by the Korean Cultural Centre UK, Korea Tourism Organisation, Korea Creative Content Agency and supported by the Mayor of London.

The event brings together an exciting mix of modern and traditional Korean culture with a dynamic programme of dance from classic to break dance, K-Pop, plus E-Sports Games and live music.

K-Pop' fans will enjoy the five piece female super group f(x), who are leading the Korean wave Hallyu with their catchy electro-pop melodies and daring fashion will headline Trafalgar Square's first K-Pop concert. Known to some as the Korean 'spice girls', f(x) are one of Korea's leading K-Pop groups as well as being an internet sensation with YouTube views in excess of 30 million hits for their eye catching videos.

A wonderful collection of hanboks, traditional South Korean dresses, will on display on the performance stage with a Hanbok Fashion Show presenting the latest creations of this traditional, vibrantly coloured design. There will also be talented UK based young designers showcasing their latest collections.

The family friendly festival will also have four fun filled interactive zones highlighting the best of Korean food, technology, arts and crafts and gaming to try.
