With the Winter Olympics just 2 years away, excitement is building towards this global sporting event to be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea. To mark the occasion an “Winter Festival” event will be held around Dano Park, Gangneung-si between the 4^th and 6^th of February, 2016.

The opening ceremony will be a wonderful mix of entertainment upon a specially designed stage in Dano Park. Bringing together an eclectic mix of K-pop singers and performances by cultural and arts organizations.

During the event period, there will be other captivating showcases such as a World DJ Festival; a celebration of traditional culture representing the Gangwon-do Region called “onecultural and art performance for onecity or gun”; cultural performances by East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Forum (EATOF) members and guest performances by professional performing groups.

February will also be a very important month with test events taking place to ensure everything is ready for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics (HelloPyeongChang.com). These include the “Jeongseon Alpine Ski World Cup,”;  the “PyeongChang Bokwang Snowboard World Cup,” and “PyeongChang Bokwang Freestyle Ski World Cup”.

A variety of winter cultural festivals within the Gangwon-do Region such as the “PyeongChang Winter Music Festival” (February 25~28, Alpensia and Yongpyong-myeon); the “Daegwallyeong Snow Festival” (January 15 ~ February 10 2016, around Hoenggye-ri, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun); the “Jeongseon Icicle Festival” (January 15 ~ 24, around Joyanggang River 2nd Bridge, Jeongseon-eup) will also be good opportunities for visitors to embrace the Gangwon-do Region and feel the spirit of winter culture.
