With
the designation of 2010-2012 as ‘Visit Korea Year’ and the emergence of Korea as a destination for health and
well-being, I am delighted to introduce a series of ideas of how to achieve
this when visiting Korea.
Over the next few weeks we will be publishing inspirational ideas for people
looking to find their personal ‘balance & harmony’ through ‘Yin, Yang’. Korea is a
place to come and recharge your energy using nature, tradition and belief.

2010 Jindo Miraclesea
Festival (March 30th ~ April 1st)
A spectacular sight to behold is the parting of the sea in Jeollanam-do.
The world-famous wonder stretches to a length of 2.8 kilometers and 40 meters
wide, exposing the areas dividing Hoedong-ri, Gogun-myeon and Modo-ri,
Uisin-myeon because of the tide differences in the morning and evening.
According to the legend, an old lady, who was left alone after all the Jindo
villagers took shelter in Modo when dangerous tigers showed up in Jindo,
eagerly prayed to the Sea God hoping to meet her family again, and the Sea God
listened to her prayer and parted the sea, granting her wish. This magical
parting of the sea became world-famous when a French ambassador in Korea named Mr.
Pierre Randi visited Jindo in 1975 and wrote about this phenomenon in a French
newspaper. Jindo Sea Parting Festival is held when the tide differences are at
its highest peak, where visitors can enjoy various sea experiences and the
unique scenery and culture of Jindo. Homepage: http://eng.jindo.go.kr

Yang dong Village
(UNESCO Heritage)
Yangdong Village, located 16km Northeast of the city of Gyeongju, the old capital of Silla
Kingdom, along the Hyeongsang River,
is a traditional village from the Joseon dynasty. The Yangdong village has
continued to prosper since its formation in the 15th century. Within the
Yangdong village, the folk customs as well as the traditional buildings of the
Joseon Dynasty are well preserved. The Yangdong Village
is a typical traditional Yangban upperclass village where two very
influential families of the Joseon Period, Gyeongju Sohn's family and Yeogang
Lee's family, have lived from generation to generation. The village has about
150 traditional houses. In this village there are three traditional buildings
designated as Treasures, twelve objects designated as Important Folk Materials
and three objects designated as Provincial Cultural Properties.
