Seoul Subway Line 2 connects many of the major downtown areas in Seoul and thus serves as an ideal mean of transportation throughout the city. Major stops along this circular line include Hongik Univ., City Hall, Euljiro1(il)-ga, and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Stations north of Hangang River, as well as Gangnam, Jamsil, and Samseong Stations in the southern region. Starting from City Hall Station, travelers can explore popular districts such as Hongdae, Edae, Gangnam, and Jamsil or visit the numerous parks, museums and art galleries located near the subway stations.
Mecenatpolis Mall is a one-stop shopping mall located near Hapjeong Station packed with fashion stores, beauty shops, restaurants, and cafés. The mall is also popular as a photo spot for its display of colorful umbrellas hanging in the air that greet visitors who step into the mall. Several cultural facilities, such as a movie theater and an art center, attract tourists and locals alike.

Dubbed “Streets of Youth,” the districts around Hongik University (Hongdae), Ewha Womans University (Edae), and Sinchon Station are always brimming with youth and energy. It is here where you can check out the latest trends of the young people in Korea. In particular, the streets of Hongdae and the surrounding areas are popular filming locations for movies and dramas, making Hongdae a popular tourist destination for Hallyu fans. As for the Ewha Womans University, the place is a popular stopover even among tourists for its well-designed walking path.
Just a short walk from City Hall Station is Cheonggyecheon Stream, a relaxing place for both tourists and local citizens. At the start of the stream, visitors can find the Candlelight Fountain illuminated in three harmonious colors and a two-tiered waterfall that descends four meters into the stream below. The waterfall is particularly stunning at night with its multi-colored illuminations and creates a refreshing sight of water cascading on sultry summer days. Each year in November, the stream is brightly lit with many beautiful lanterns during the Seoul Lantern Festival.
Seoul Plaza is a round grassy plaza, designed to resemble the full moon. The plaza is the venue of diverse, large-scale cultural events. Every winter, a giant Christmas tree is installed and the plaza operates an outdoor ice skating rink, providing diverse ways to enjoy the city.

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art consists of four museums, including Deoksugung, Seoul, Gwacheon, and Cheongju, and features the history of Korea’s modern and contemporary art as well as the periodic trends in contemporary art around the world. The museum in Deoksugung focuses mainly on Korea’s contemporary art, literature, and calligraphy.

Opened in March 2014, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is a multi-purpose cultural space built on the former site of Dongdaemun Stadium. The spaceship-like building houses art halls, museums and a design shop. Dongdaemun Design Plaza is unique in that the entire structure is connected with flowing lines, and there are no columns to be found within the design shop. The outdoor exhibition spaces also display cultural heritage items uncovered during construction on the site.
Sindang-dong Tteokbokki Town began forming in the late ‘70s. Tteokbokki today has evolved into a menu with diverse recipes that include add-ins as well as choosing the spiciness level, capturing the taste buds of many people.
Conceived as “a forest of life that breathes with nature,” Seoul Forest serves as a place of rejuvenation and rest for Seoulites. This eco-friendly forest is covered in trees about 20 meters tall and 30 to 40 centimeters in diameter. Amenities include an open square, outdoor stage, ground fountain, artificial pond, and other visitor-friendly facilities where people can enjoy diverse leisure activities.
Lotte World is a large-scale culture complex consisting of an indoor theme park known as Lotte World Adventure, a lakeside park called Magic Island, a gigantic shopping mall, an ice rink, and more. Visitors can enjoy a one-stop tour, leisure, shopping, and cultural experience here. Another popular attraction located nearby is Lotte World Tower & Mall, which features an observation deck on the 123rd floor as well as an aquarium and many shops.

Jamsil Station, Exit 3, approx. 10-min walk
Located within a short walking distance from Jamsil Station, Seokchonhosu Lake Park holds an annual cherry blossom festival in spring. During the festival period, an array of performances take place and crowds of visitors flock to this area to enjoy the magnificent scenery of cherry blossoms that embroiders the neighborhood of Lotte World Tower and Lotte World’s Magic Island. Needless to say, it is a popular date spot with a romantic ambience!
COEX (Convention and Exhibition Center) is a hub of global business equipped with convenient transportation, communication, and cutting-edge business infrastructure. At the same time, it is a one-stop destination for exhibitions, culture, and tourism. Its sprawling underground shopping mall known as Starfield COEX Mall is a cultural complex where you can enjoy shopping, culture, and relaxation all in one place. Inside the mall is Starfield Library, a popular attraction and resting spot that opened in 2017. Another popular attraction is COEX Aquarium, designed around the theme of “Journey of Water.”
Nestled in the downtown Gangnam area packed with modern high rises, Seolleung and Jeongneung are royal tombs of the Joseon dynasty with a history of 400 to 500 years. The park is open until late in the evening from March through October, with soft lighting creating an entirely different ambiance from daytime. At the History and Culture Center by the entrance, visitors can watch a video on the history of the UNESCO-enlisted royal tombs and learn how they were built.

It is considered the largest masterpiece landmark of the southwestern part of Seoul, shaping the skyline.
