Seoul Subway Line 4 extends from the heart of Seoul to Oido Island, offering diverse travel options that include major cultural and artistic attractions, as well as a coastal trip just on the outskirts of Seoul. Travelers can enjoy the zestful energy at youth-driven areas of the city, such as performing arts and plays along Daehangno Street, view the talented work of up-and-coming artists and purchase their latest collections at Dongdaemun and Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), or experience Korea’s movie culture at Chungmuro Movie Street. Attractions like Seoul Grand Park and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon are ideal destinations for a more relaxed trip for families with children. Last, but not least, Oido Island with abundant fresh seafood and romantic views is a popular attraction for all.
A representative venue of constant cultural events like busking performances, Marronnier Park in Daehangno is always brimming with youthful exuberance. An urban farmers’ market known as “Daehangno Marche” is held on weekends, where visitors can experience a vibrant market atmosphere along with exciting performances.
Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, Exit 1, approx. 5-min walk
Designed by the world famous architect Zaha Hadid, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is a unique architectural structure, characterized by curves that flow seamlessly in spirals. DDP and its surrounding areas are a shopper’s heaven, drawing a constant stream of visitors day and night.
Chungmuro Station, Exit 3 or 4, approx. 5-min walk
The village is made up of five hanok houses, restored and relocated to the present site, against the natural scenic backdrop of Namsan Mountain. Each of the five houses reproduces how people of different social classes lived in the past. Furthermore, visitors can get a hands-on experience of Korea's traditional culture through various programs hosted by the village, such as wearing hanbok (traditional Korean clothes).

Namsan Seoul Tower offers panoramic views of downtown Seoul. In particular, the second floor is famous for its “Locks of Love.” This attraction has often appeared as a backdrop in dramas. Visitors can enjoy an even more romantic view of Seoul by going up to the tower’s upper floors.
Myeong-dong Station, Exit 6 or 7, approx. 1-min walk
The areas surrounding Myeongdong Theater intersection is a shopping paradise, offering many selections ranging from prestigious brand stores to street stalls. Apart from the popular multi-brand stores that feature trending designer brands, a number of mega shopping malls, including Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, and Migliore, are also located in the vicinity. Myeong-dong is not only known for shopping and fashion trends, but also for its variety of dining options. Visitors can find some of the top gourmet restaurants in the city, as well as a vast assortment of delectable street food
Myeong-dong Cathedral has a deep connection with the history of Catholicism, and is recognized preserved for its historical value. In 2014, Pope Francis held a mass for peace and reconciliation in this cathedral.
Namdaemun Market sells a broad selection of items, which include clothing, kitchenware, electronic goods, and other imported general items at affordable prices. Namdaemun Market is also filled with tasty restaurants as the place is home to Galchi Jorim Alley, Kalguksu Alley, and Bukchang-dong Food Street.
The War Memorial of Korea is a museum dedicated to Korea’s military history. The outdoor exhibition area displays symbolic statues that represent the museum, namely the Peace Clock Tower and the Statue of Brothers, which depicts a scene of two brothers hugging each other upon reunion during a battle under opposing forces as a South Korean officer and a North Korean soldier. As for the indoor exhibition area, experience centers allow visitors to get secondhand knowledge of how it feels to be at war through the sound of gunshots and the smell of gunpowder.
National Museum of Korea is where visitors can get an overview of Korea’s history all in one place. The museum is divided into east and west: the east wing houses six permanent exhibition halls, while the west wing consists of special exhibition halls, an outdoor exhibition area, and a children’s museum. Commentary tours are available for foreigners every day at scheduled hours.
Seoul Grand Park Station, Exit 2, approx. 10-min walk
Seoul Grand Park has a zoo and an amusement park that was moved from Changgyeonggung Palace during the Changgyeonggung Palace restoration. The park also boasts a range of amusement facilities, including themed gardens, campground, Seoulland amusement park, The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon and more.
Oido Station, Exit 2, approx. 35-min by bus (No. 30-2, 11-C) or 15-min by taxi
Originally, Oido Island was an isolated island located approximately 4 kilometers away from the coast. However, during the Japanese occupation, the beach was used as a salt farm and the island became connected to land overtime. There are plenty of attractions at the fish market, as the region is well known for its fresh marine products, especially the local specialty dishes such as jogae gui (grilled clams) and bajirak kalguksu (clam noodle soup). Another interesting characteristic of this market is the seafood-motif robot signboards installed to grab visitors’ attention.
