Bukhansan Mountain National Park is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “Most Visited National Park per Unit of Area.” It is conveniently accessible by public transportation and offers a panoramic view of the downtown Seoul area, which makes it a popular destination among local and international visitors alike. Bukhansan Dulle-gil, a charming hiking trail along the foothills of Bukhansan Mountain, is also a great alternative to going up the mountain.

Visitors to Digital Media City (DMC) in Sangam-dong will feel as if they have entered a cutting-edge technological city of the future. Among the many futuristic-looking high rises in DMC, the headquarters of Munhwa Broadcasting Company (MBC) is a prominent landmark of the area. Featuring unique architecture with huge statues in front of the building, it appeared as a backdrop in the movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Star Park, a plaza in front of the company building, features hand printings of hallyu celebrities, as well as Garden Studio, which offers visitors a chance to watch live recordings of radio broadcast.
World Cup Stadium Station, Exit 2, approx. 10-min walk
Seoul World Cup Stadium was the main stadium of the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup. It is equipped with a movie theater, giant supermarkets, jjimjilbang (Korean-style sauna), shops, and a number of parks clustered around the stadium. On days when there are no events scheduled, visitors are welcome to tour the stadium. The tour starts from the stadium’s tour entrance gate and covers the stadium, athletes’ waiting room, and other facilities. A commentary tour is also available in English for international visitors, however, visitors are advised to inquire at the information desk as English-guided tour availability varies depending on staff schedule.

Pyeonghwa Park is the main park of World Cup Park. Other parks in the vicinity include Haneul Park, Noeul Park, and Nanji Hangang Park. Carpeted in an extensive grass lawn and lush forest, the park is a terrific spot for a picnic or a leisurely walk. The willow trees lining the banks of the river and seasonal flowers add extra charm to the park’s picturesque atmosphere.

Nanjicheon Park: World Cup Stadium Station, Exit 1, approx. 15-min by bus (No. 271, 733, 7013A, or 7013B)
Created along the Nanjicheon Stream, this park contains walking paths, a grass plaza, eco-wetland, forest experience zone for children, and other amenities. Near the entrance of the park is a beautiful walkway flanked by metasequoia and pine trees.

Of all the parks that make up World Cup Park, Haneul Park is closest to the sky, and is a popular destination for couples on dates and photographers. The Haneul Stairs, especially, is one of the most favored spots, providing a fantastic view as you zig and zag up the hill. Moreover, during the annual Eulalia Festival held in October, the entire park becomes carpeted in waves of silver, rendered by lush eulalia in full bloom. Handrails throughout the park will also draw visitors’ eyes with hundreds of “love locks” left hanging by couples on dates. Visitors can easily get to the top of the hill by riding the park’s electronic tram.

One of the best known places in Seoul to watch the sunset is Noeul Park, a location which contains a camping ground, Noeul Café and more. The park is decorated with numerous artworks and sculptures, which you can enjoy while talking a leisurely stroll. The camping ground is reputed to offer the most gorgeous, expansive panorama of the city. In particular, Noeul Café’s observatory is an ideal site to take in the stunning view of the Hangang River over a cup of coffee.

Mangwon Hangang Park has a well-kept bike trail that allow riders to cycle in comfort while enjoying unhampered views of the Hangang River. Bicycle rentals are available next to the Cruise Dock. Amenities include a dock for kayaks, boats, and other water sports, and a grass lawn serving as a picnic area. Since Mangwon Market is located right nearby, picnickers often buy food from the market and eat at the park while enjoying the view.

Seonyudo, meaning “a secluded place where Taoist hermits play,” is a small island in the Hangang River. The area used to be ruins of an old purification plant before it turned into an ecological park. The park has various facilities including an aquatic botanical garden and the “Garden of Green Columns,” which was created using the columns of the former reservoir. The “Garden of Time,” featuring a wide variety of plants, and the greenhouse are also favored tourist attractions.
The War Memorial of Korea has on display a range of war-related items that offer a chance to remember the tragedy of war and wish for peace. Its facilities include the War Memorial Exhibit, War History Exhibit, Korean War Exhibit, Expeditionary Forces Exhibit, ROK Armed Forces Exhibit, and more. The War Memorial Exhibit displays the list of all the soldiers who died since the founding of the Korean Army. The museum offers dynamic experiences for visitors to look back upon the memory of the deceased.
Visitors to Itaewon can enjoy cuisines from around the globe on the World Food Street, dotted with restaurants, pubs, and clubs. Also in the surrounding areas are Shopping Street, Antique Furniture Street, and Usadan-gil Road with the Seoul Central Mosque. A noteworthy event is the Global Village Festival held every fall in the Itaewon area. The festival draws crowds of visitors with a wide range of fun-filled events including a massive parade featuring participants from all over the world, K-pop concerts, tasting of international cuisine, and much more!
Gyeongnidan-gil Road runs between Namsan Circular Road and Itaewon. Situated just off the main street in Itaewon, Gyeongnidan-gil garnered a lot of attention as the “gourmet street.” The alleys extending from the two-lane road in the center are lined with an array of cozy cafes and restaurants. The most popular sites are craft beer joints and dessert cafés. Visitors can also get splendid night views of the residential area and Namsan Seoul Tower from a number of locations throughout the neighborhood.
Namsan Botanical Garden, opened in 1997, is a frequented get-a-way place for both local residents and international visitors. Located on an elevated area at the foot of Namsan Mountain, the botanical garden is a popular date spot that offers scenic views. The botanical garden consists of a streamlet, wild flower garden, colony of pine trees, and more.
Chungmu Art Center is a multi-purpose art complex that stages diverse genres of performance such as musicals, plays, concerts, and dances. On days when musicals showcasing hallyu stars are held, the center becomes crowded with excited international visitors. The art hall is comprised of a grand theater, a mid-sized theater called Black, and a small theater known as Blue. Other facilities include a gallery, café, restaurant, art shop, outdoor rest area, and more. During the Seoul Music Festival and Chungmuro International Musical Film Festival periods, the art hall hosts additional attractions such as a flea market and food stalls.
